Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree (Gemma)

GEMMA is the first Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree in Women's and Gender Studies in Europe. It is a programme of recognised excellence supported by the European Commission, which originally selected it in 2006. In 2011, GEMMA was once again selected for funding under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus brand, and singled out among the 177 submitted proposals as "a pilot project and a model in the field of Women's Studies and Gender Studies in a European and global perspective".

GEMMA provides the unique opportunity of international mobility between two of the eight partner universities. GEMMA graduates obtain a double diploma acknowledged by all the members of the GEMMA Consortium.

The eight partner institutions represent seven countries with different traditions and cultures: University of Oviedo (Spain), University of Bologna (Italy), Central European University (Hungary), University of Hull (United Kingdom), University of Lodz (Poland), University of Utrecht (Netherlands) and University of Granada (Spain, coordinator). Since 2012, the GEMMA Consortium also includes Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (USA).

GEMMA is an interdisciplinary programme of recognised quality that provides academic and professional competences in the areas of Women's Studies, Gender Studies and Equal Opportunities at the European and international level. It offers a wide array of subjects within the Humanities and Social Sciences, in multiple combinations. Courses are taught by highly reputed scholars who are considered leading figures in their fields of research.
